Learn how to cut, arrange and fix ceramic and glass material to a square base to create a mosaic surround for a mirror. You will be encouraged to allow the materials selected to help inform your mosaic design by considering the arrangement of colour, surface quality and pattern, line and texture.
You will be provided with a square format mirror and larger board as your material starting point for designing and making a mosaic surround to frame the mirror. You will be taught how to cut ceramic and glass mosaic tiles as well as select parts from decorative china that you might like to include. The tutor will discuss with you approaches to planning and constructing your mosaic and possible arrangements of materials to achieve your outcome. You will learn how to fix ceramic and glass material to the base. There will be a grouting demonstration for you to follow later when your mosaics are fully fixed. Grout will be available for you to take away.
You will be encouraged to allow the materials selected to help inform your mosaic design by considering the arrangement of colour, surface quality and pattern, line and texture. It will primarily be the materials and the process that will be your inspiration, more than any suggested subject or pictorial references.
