About this course

Bring the beauty of an outdoor garden indoors. Learn how to make an open terrarium, hanging kokedama (Japanese hanging moss ball), a macrame plant hanger and how to choose the right plants, soil and container.

Course Description

Jen will show how to bring the beauty of an outdoor garden indoors. She will begin by demonstrating how to make an open terrarium, hanging Kokedama and macramé plant hanger.

The day will begin with a short talk about the history of the terrariums and choosing the right plant, soil and container. Jen will give a practical demonstration then you will make your own terrarium using five different varieties of succulents. She will also demonstrate how to make a Kokedama (Japanese hanging moss ball - planted with a house plant). The afternoon will be spent making a macramé plant hanger.


Timetable for one day courses

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm

Lunch is included.

Course Materials


  • All materials will be supplied to create your terrarium, Kokedama and macramé plant hanger.
  • Please note the terrarium supplied will be D25cm x H22cm x 25cm.

What students need to bring

  • Bring along a sketch/note book and camera to record your work.

Jen Berry

Jen Berry is a garden designer who has a background in fashion design. She is based near St Albans and has her own garden design and planting business. She runs workshops in making terrariums and Kokedama along with various aspects of house plant styling.
