Course Description

Learn the basics of tapestry weaving on a small scale by making a cuff with a landscape or abstract design. Discover how to warp a small tapestry frame, design an image and weave it using needle-weaving. The finished piece will be backed with felt, edged with a twisted cord and finished with a brooch pin. There will be the opportunity to make more than one example.

Timetable for one day courses

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm

Lunch is included.

Course Materials

Included

  • A small tapestry frame, warp and weft yarns, beads and jewellery findings for your cuff.

What students need to bring

  • Any fine yarns, i.e. no heavier than DK, that you might wish to incorporate.

Available to buy

  • Some extra yarns and materials to weave another tapestry when you go home, and bobbins

Tutors

LouLou Morris

LouLou Morris is a tapestry artist and freelance educator with wide experience in nurturing creativity in others. She has a BA in Mixed Media Textile Design (DMU 2009)and an MFA in Tapestry and Textile Art from West Dean College (2011). Since graduation she has enjoyed a number of Artist Residencies and teaching gigs. Her tapestries and mixed media works are in a number of private collections and she exhibits in both the UK and USA.
