Hendrike's current work explores the possibilities of combining Kumihimo silk braids with precious metal elements. Whilst the Kumihimo braids allow for the subtle introduction of colour, the metal parts are usually textured and folded to add further tactility to the pieces. He often prefers the abstract, lines drawn quickly on paper and then, pursuing that idea, attempts a translation of that drawing into tangible materials.
Hester Cox's printmaking is informed by her surroundings and she seek out evidence of the natural world that is particular to that environment. By using multiple plates, painted textures and intricate cutting in her collagraphs Hester accentuates the patterns found in the natural world, celebrate the colours in nature and draw attention to everyday occurrences that happen around us but that often go unnoticed or are soon forgotten.
Iris De La Torre Mexican jewellery designer, with a passion for colour, graphic design and plastics. She works in the plastic medium and, in particular, acrylic sheet and rubber because it translates ideas successfully. Iris' inspiration to design comes from the folkloric spirit of Mexico, its naïve identity and vibrant combinations of colour, and 1960s graphic design, for its use of bold colour, abstract and whimsical form and geometric shapes.
James Bywood is a contemporary landscape artist working predominantly in the medium of print. Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, James’s imagery is inspired by the great northern national parks – The Yorkshire Dales, Peak District and Lake District. James’s work incorporates a graphical language more commonly seen in magazine and book printing, alongside influences including the great mid twentieth century Japanese and American woodcut printmakers.
James Price is a blacksmith and designer specialising in hot forged contemporary metal work, primarily hot forged steel but also use stainless steel and bronze. James finds particular inspiration in the traditional construction and fixing methods that feature so strongly in the blacksmith’s craft. Combining these traditions with contemporary design and modern metalwork practice he creates work that is firmly rooted in the present.
