About this course

Make your own leather belt using vegetable tanned leather and brassware. You will learn traditional techniques to hand stitch your belt, and how to ensure you get the perfect fit.

Course Description

In this relaxed workshop, Jeremy and Carla will work alongside you demonstrating each process to enable you to make your own leather belt. Using vegetable tanned leather and brassware sourced in the UK, this taster session will allow you to learn about leather, how to use hand tools and traditional techniques to hand stitch your own belt.

On all their workshops, Carla and Jeremy aim to equip all students with the necessary hand skills, knowledge and confidence to work with leather, while emphasizing simple straightforward design.

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm

Lunch is included.

What students need to bring

  • Stout covered footwear – essential in the workshop
  • Notebook and pencil

  • We have a generously stocked craft shop, which opens daily from 8:30am–2pm, for any materials you need to purchase from the shop.

  • Additional materials for smaller projects to make on the course, should you complete making your belt before the end of the day. These materials will be charged individually and must be paid to the tutors before the end of the course.

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, including stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).

Tutors

Jeremy and Carla Bonner

Jeremy and Carla Bonner established Bonner Leather Studio in 2014 just outside Cirencester, where they work together. Jeremy graduated from Birmingham School of Art and Carla graduated from Newcastle on Tyne Polytechnic.
