Jane specialises in copper plate etching as it enables her to make very detailed prints. Her inspiration comes from places she has visited on her travels, to animals and birds. When making her prints Jane's aim is to evoke the atmosphere of the place that inspires her or the character of the animals she is portraying.
Jane's work is very colourful and usually combines both traditional hand drawn "mark making" with digital and photographic elements into a layered printed collage. Her favourite medium is silkscreen, the versatility of which she has been exploring for approximately 40 years. She is well known as an enthusiastic teacher and lecturer and runs an open access studio in Brighton called Inkspot Press.
Jane studied illustration and printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee before following a career in design at the BBC in London. She has now come full circle and returned to her first love, printmaking and particularly linocuts. Jane uses the reduction linocut technique to produce handmade limited edition prints. Her prints reveal a fascination with still life and the richness of her palette and her strong graphic sensibility reflect her love of 20th century artists and craftsmen, 50s textile design and Scandinavian ceramics. Jane is a member of the Oxford Printmakers and the Gloucester Printmaking Cooperative.
