We love our students to get stuck in and not be too precious about their initial designs. We love our work to be full of character and the best way to achieve this is to really enjoy the whole process and have a lot of fun. We find a very hands on approach works best!!
WHAT WILL STUDENTS GAIN IF THEY COME ON ONE OF YOUR COURSES?
Students who come on the course will enjoy learning how to create their own piece of unique furniture. We will introduce students to the design process involved in making a piece of up cycled furniture and teach the basic woodworking techniques required as well as upholstery and wood finishing methods- depending on how they wish to finish their piece.
ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR TECHNIQUES/PROCESSES YOU USE IN YOUR TEACHING?
We really encourage group discussion during the design process. It is great to bounce ideas off others and to get an alternative viewpoint or inspiration from classmates. As each student’s work is quite different we like to spend as much one to one time with students advising on best construction methods and design options.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR OWN WORK?
We really love furniture and cant stand to see well made pieces going to land fill when they can be redesigned into happy new ones!! This is what drives our design and inspires us everyday.
