Patricia Gidney

Patricia has been working to commission and teaching the calligraphy and associated skills since 1984. She trained with Ann Camp at Roehampton Institute of Further Education. She was elected a Fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators in 1998. Her work was included in The Calligrapher's Project Book and Practical Calligraphy (Hamlyn 1991).

Commissions include work for The College of Arms, St Paul's Cathedral, British Museum, Council for the Protection of Rural England, BBC Television, HarperCollins, Italian Chamber of Commerce, The Worshipful Company of Founders, The Worshipful Company of Armourers & Braziers & York University. She was a co-founder of the Edward Johnston Foundation.

My approach to teaching is to help encourage students to improve their skills both on a one to one basis and as a group with plenty of practical work. I include demonstrations and show examples of good designs by a range of artists.

I am inspired by nature, words that have meaning to me and the challenge of producing good designs.
