Michael Bowyer

Michael Bowyer was a qualified welder and maximum security fencer for most of his working life until a serious accident lead to a career change to a picture framer. He trained at the internationally accredited framing school of Lyn Hall GFC(APF) ADV where he learnt the correct techniques and skills of picture framing which then enabled him to become a Guild Commended Framer, a certification that is recognised worldwide.

Mike and his partner Jan opened Roundstone Framing, their own picture framing studio in 2006 which quickly became successful, later adding 1-2-1 training workshops which resulted in some students going on to open their own framing business. Mike and Jan now specialize in military, police and conservation framing.

In 2008 Roundstone Framing was voted into the top 10 finalists of the ‘National Framing Awards’.The competition entry was on display for the duration of the Spring Show held at the NEC, Birmingham.

Describe your approach to teaching
I teach the correct methods of picture framing as set down by the Guild of Commended Framers.

What inspires your own work?
With the ability to pass on my skills and knowledge to others, I want to inspire the passion for creativity within the picture framers' craft.
