Lucy Thomas

Lucy is a designer-maker living and working in Sussex. She produces modern upholstered furniture. Useful objects made well. Originally trained in prop-making at Central, she ‘fell’ into marketing feature films, before retraining in traditional & modern upholstery.

She also teaches at The Goodlife Centre & KLC School of Design, both in London.

Describe your approach to teaching
I run fun, friendly workshops. I want students to gain experience & confidence with a mix of modern & traditional upholstery tools & principles, importantly, leaving with a make and take piece.

What inspires your own work?
The idea that “If you can’t fix it, you don’t own it”. Using natural & revalued materials and techniques which allow for repair, my work is made for life, not landfill.
