Louisa Taylor

Louisa Taylor studied an MA in Ceramics and Glass at the RCA, London (2004-2006). She is based in Brighton where she produces her ceramic tableware range for shops, galleries and collectors in the UK and internationally. She is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton and a member of the Crafts Potters Association and Contemporary Applied Arts.

In 2012, Louisa was artist-in-residence at the Victoria and Albert Museum. She is the author of 'Ceramics: Tools and Techniques for the Contemporary Maker', Jacqui Small (2011).

How would you describe your approach to teaching?

I have a playful and inclusive approach to my teaching. I like to encourage learning through process and enable students to feel confident in the development of their skills.

What inspires your own work?

Museum collections of 18th Century dining vessels inspire my work and high society dining rituals of the period. My particular research interest lies with obsolete function and I explore methods to redesign objects to create contemporary tableware for modern living.
