Kathryn Green

Kathryn is a textile artist and tutor. Having obtained a first-class degree in textiles, she went on to qualify as a tutor, taught in further & higher education for several years and now teaches regularly from her studio and various other venues. Since graduating Kathryn has continued to develop her approach to textiles, specialising in textile print and dye processes. 
She has exhibited at Jagged Art Gallery, London, Found Gallery, Wales, New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, Aspex Gallery, and Portsmouth, and was commissioned by Glyndebourne Opera to create a collection exclusively for them. 

She is a member of the Hampshire & Berkshire Guild of Craftsmen.  

Describe your approach to teaching
I take a person-centred approach to my teaching, spending time with each individual, and believing that each person brings something truly valuable and exciting to their art. Listening and responding to what’s said, and left unsaid, forms the starting point from which creativity evolves. My focus is to build confidence and inspire others to carry on creating beyond the workshop itself. 

What inspires your own work? 
My work’s a tangible expression of things I see, feel and experience.
The landscape provides a constant and enduring inspiration to which I return time and again. I have travelled extensively over the years and enjoy drawing on the cultures, patterns, textures and colours of these remarkable places. Joy and inspiration can also be found in old objects and the concept of the traces that remain from previous and continuous use.
