Jonathan Farley MA ACR

Jonathan is a Library and Archives Conservator with over 40 years experience. He initially trained as a bookbinder at the London College of Printing in the early 1980s, gaining both the certificate and B'TECH Higher National Certificate in bookbinding. After several years in industry, he went on to study conservation at Camberwell College of Arts, where he gained the B'TECH Higher National Diploma and an MA in Conservation.

Jonathan has worked for various institutions such as the National Archive, Hampshire Record Office and The University of Hull. For the last 25 years, he has been the Senior Conservator for the Library, Art and Archives of the Royal Botanic Gardens. 

Jonathan is an accredited member of ICON (the Institute for Conservation)

Research Interests

Jonathan is keen on investigating lesser known binding styles and decoration methods of the 18th and 19th centuries. He is also interested in the methods used in storing natural history material as archive resources and is especially interested in the historical production of exsiccatae.
