Charlotte Grierson

Charlotte studied woven textile design before gaining an MA in Textiles from Goldsmiths with an art-led focus. In her studio at Cockpit, Deptford she designs woven scarves, weaves art based works and teaches. She is a Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and a member of The Art Workers’ Guild.

Describe your approach to teaching
As a teacher, I aim to encourage students to explore and experiment. Through discussions, questions and evaluation I hope to enable students to discover and develop their skills as weavers.

What inspires your own work?
My inspiration comes from rock formations and the forces that generate them. For me, there is a connection with how I use weave structures and different yarns to create surface textures and at times 3-dimensional woven pieces.
