Using direct approaches to screen printing rather than photographic elements or flat colour blocks, this short course will open your eyes to the infinite variety of creating texture and layers of marks to conjure your vision. We will cover the use of paper stencils, ghost prints, direct mark-making with charcoal, graphite, water-soluble pastels and crayons, watercolour and combinations of all. You will be applying paint and mediums with brushes and other tools to develop your work, overprinting or not as the image making leads you along.
You will be inspired by the immediacy of this process which can be developed to create complex layered prints, crossing the bridge between painting and printmaking.
Your tutor has used screen monotype extensively in her work over the last 30 years of her artistic life.

Courses start early evening. Residential students to arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm.
6.45pm: Welcome, followed by dinner (included).
8 - 9pm: First teaching session, attendance is essential.
Daily timetable
Classes 9.15 - 5pm, lunch is included.
From 6.30pm: Dinner (included for residential students).
Evening working - students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.
Last day
Classes 9.15am - 3pm, lunch is included.
Residential students are to vacate their rooms by 10am please.

Gail Mason is a painter/printmaker exploring the ‘Emotional Landscape’ through semi-abstract fictive works. With an MA in Multidisciplinary Printmaking, Gail has been a tutor at Spike Print Studio since 2008. Selected for the Royal Academy and a recipient of several national awards, her works have been widely exhibited and collected in the UK.
