Learn how to make prints using simple but effective techniques and materials. This course is structured to give you a step-by-step guide to relief printmaking, with the opportunity to experiment with designs and materials.
During the course, you will make several print blocks from lino using cutting tools and craft knives. The tutor will show you how to make a registration board to register your paper and printing plate in order to achieve multiple overprinting. Inking methods will be demonstrated and explained to enable you to achieve the desired outcome. You will learn how to create shapes and planes using stencils, and be encouraged to experiment with the viscosity of the inks to discover which are suited to different types of design. There will be the opportunity to explore both multi-coloured and monochrome printing methods.
At the end of the course, you will have discovered how to make sophisticated prints at home on your kitchen table, with simple materials and no press. You will have gained a good understanding of the possibilities and the qualities of materials used to print with during the course. You will have learned to register and print from several blocks. You will have produced a small edition of prints and several monoprints.
This is a course where a sense of experimentation will be required.

Courses start early evening. Residential students to arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm.
6.45pm: Welcome, followed by dinner (included).
8 - 9pm: First teaching session, attendance is essential.

Evening working - students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.
Last day
Classes 9.15am - 3pm, lunch is included.
Residential students are to vacate their rooms by 10am please.
