About this course

Please note that the course fee of £1044 (which covers all three units) is payable in advance of study.

The course seeks to bring together all the key components of good crime writing into one continuing programme and to offer an insight into the writers' toolkit necessary for developing skills and building your confidence.

Course Description

Writing You Book is the third and final unit in our three-part Certificate in Crime Writing course.

Please note this unit cannot be taken as a stand alone course. Attendance and payment of all three units is required to be awarded the full Certificate in Crime Writing.

Timetable

Arrival Day - this is the first date listed above

Courses start early evening. Residential students to arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm.

6.45pm: Welcome, followed by dinner (included).

8 - 9pm: First teaching session, attendance is essential.

Daily timetable

Classes 9.15 - 5pm, lunch is included.

From 6.30pm: Dinner (included for residential students).

Evening working - students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.

Last day

Classes 9.15am - 3pm, lunch is included.

Residential students are to vacate their rooms by 10am please.

ELLY GRIFFITHS wrote four novels under her own name, Domenica de Rosa before turning to crime with The Crossing Places, the first novel featuring forensic archaeologist Dr Ruth Galloway. The Crossing Places won the Mary Higgins Clark award and five novels in the series have been shortlisted for the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year. The Locked Room (Ruth #14) was number one on the Sunday Times bestseller list. Elly also writes the Brighton Mysteries, set in the theatrical world of the 1950s. In 2016 Elly was awarded the CWA Dagger in the Library for her body of work. Her first standalone mystery, The Stranger Diaries, won the 2020 Edgar award for Best Crime Novel. The second, The Postscript Murders, was shortlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger. Elly also writes a children's mystery series,  A Girl Called Justice.  Elly teaches on the creative writing MA at West Dean College and on the crime-writing MSt at Madingley Hall, University of Cambridge.
