This workshop will teach you to stencil print your own fabrics. You will learn how to design your own motifs, transform them into stencils, print with them using different kinds of brush techniques and make repeating patterns using registration techniques for stencil printing.
After the workshop, you will be ready to do your own designing and pattern making at home for home décor, garments and art, or for making products in case you have your own small business. Stencil printing does not require you to have a lot of expensive equipment or to use toxic materials. It is a technique that you can easily continue to do by yourself even in a limited space.
The first part of the workshop is built around using brush techniques with simple stencils to create different effects and depth in your designs. You will be using them to create a number of different kinds of tossed patterns.
In the second part of the workshop, how to make more complex motifs will be introduced by using multiple stencils to build them.
The third part of the workshop is about designing simple repeating patterns and stencil printing them with the use of registration techniques for stencil printing.
You can expect to use nature as inspiration for part of the time, as well as working with abstract motifs. The technique of stencil printing can be used in all styles and for all kinds of patterns, and you will be very welcome to choose your own inspiration for designing and printing.
Waterbased, non-toxic ink for screenprinting and printing on cotton, as well as linen will be used. You will be able to take home a series of printed samples, as well as some finished prints of 20 x 20 inches.
The workshop comes with a reader that describes all the techniques and practices that we will use.
