About this course

Outstanding learning and performing opportunities through repertoire and technique classes, ensemble playing, guitar orchestra, student concerts, individual lessons and solo masterclasses. Working with internationally acclaimed artists you will study in an ensemble group according to your level (Grade 2 and above). Includes a guitar open day and an evening concert series with Paul Galbraith, Kevin Loh, Berta Rojas, and Roland Chadwick's Roccoco Cafe Consort featuring Detlev Bork.

Bursaries are available for 18 to 24 year old.

Course Description

Timetable

Guitar Festival Timetable

Several evening events are planned throughout the week, a detailed timetable for the festival week will be given to you on arrival.

Arrival day

Residential students to arrive from 2 - 3pm, non-residential students to arrive by 3pm.

3.30pm: Welcome and introduction, attendance is essential.

4.45pm: First teaching session, followed by dinner (included).

Daily timetable

Classes 9.15 - 6pm, lunch is included.

From 6.30pm: Dinner (included).

Evening working - students may have access to teaching rooms until 9pm, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.

Last day

Classes 9.15am - 2pm, lunch is included.

Residential students should vacate their rooms by 10am please.

Alison Bendy - West Dean International Classical Guitar Festival

Alison Bendy

Alison Bendy is a highly experienced guitar tutor, music publisher (Holley Music) and ensemble guitarist with the Aragon Guitar Quartet and in a duo with Gerald Garcia.

Detlev Bork

Detlev Bork is an international flamenco and classical guitarist from Germany.  He is also a visiting professor at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California and solo guitarist with the German National Ballet in Berlin.

Gerald Garcia

Gerald Garcia is a renowned composer, recording artist with NAXOS, Musical Director of the National Youth Guitar Ensemble and guitarist in various ensembles, including the Mandolinquents.

Andrew Gough, Director of the West Dean Classical Guitar Festival

Andrew Gough

Andrew Gough is Head of Guitar at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department and also teaches at King Edward’s School, Birmingham. Andrew has been a tutor at the West Dean International Classical Guitar Festival since 2003 and has been the festival’s director since 2013.

David Leisner, West Dean Guitar Festival

David Leisner

David Leisner is an international soloist, recording artist and composer from the USA. He is a member of the guitar faculty at the Manhattan School of Music and author of Playing with Ease (OUP).

Manus Noble

Award-winning Irish soloist and composer with an interest in extended techniques. He is also a graduate of the European Institute of Guitar Making, and Director of the Bunagee Guitar Festival.
