About this course

Digitisation can increase access to collections, provide surrogates for vulnerable originals and enable virtual reunification of collections. But how do you know where to start? What equipment do you need, what type of image should you create, how do you prepare items for digitisation and make plans for their digital access? Both days of this course focus on 'still image' capture with Part 2 offering a practical follow-up to the first day with demonstrations and tours.

Course Description

This training day concentrates on ‘still image’ capture and outlines the processes involved in planning digitisation projects. It is focused on the digitisation of library and archive materials mainly from the British Library collections and other related projects. The day includes guidance on copyright licensing, metadata and workflow management.

Students should arrive by 9.30am for registration.

Classes are from 9.30 - 4.30pm.

A working lunch in the Foyle Room is included.

Matt Lambert

Head of Copyright, Policy & Assurance, British Library 

Matthew Lambert has been at the British Library for just over 4 years and is currently the Head of Copyright, Policy & Assurance. Prior to working at the Library he spent 10 years working in the published industry in a copyright and licensing capacity. His role at the Library is to set copyright policy and processes, as well as managing the team which provides oversight for all the Library’s copyright related activities. Matthew regularly speaks about copyright at conferences, and is a Fellow of the RSA and member of the CENL European Copyright Group.
