Mum and daughter on the carousel at the Chilli Fiesta

It's a Family Affair: Entertainment For All Ages At Chilli 2015

In the 2nd installment of our series building up to the 20th West Dean Chilli Fiesta in August, we take a look at the family entertainment in store.

Of course it's not just us totally mad adults who love torturing our mouths on a regular basis. The little ones (or should that be los niños?) love the spice too. And why shouldn't they?! As always, at the 2015 West Dean Chilli Fiesta there will be a raft of family friendly entertainment and activities to keep yourselves and your little chilli fanatics "muy contento" this August 7, 8 and 9.

Out and About

Whether you're 4, 14 or 40, and whether you'd like to admit it or not, everybody loves a carousel. Maybe it's the chance to imagine yourself as a cowboy or a princess for a few short minutes (for me it's the former). Either way, the Vintage Steam funfair can offer just that as well as all the fantastic funfair classics!

For the less inclined to heights or spinning, you'll be happy to know that there are plenty of other attractions on offer this year, including Punch & Judy shows, Chilli demonstrations, Antonio the Tambourine Juggler, face painting, excellent Rock School workshops, an array of wonderful live music across the weekend and NEW this year, The Great Chilli Throwing Contest! All of which can be enjoyed by festival goers of any age amid the sweet, spicy sounds and smells of our chilli inspired haven.

As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations festival-goers will also be treated to a spectacular firework display on Saturday evening!

If the children have got loads of energy, take them for a walk in West Dean's extensive grounds. Visit St Roche's Arboretum and take the two-and-a-half-mile circuit walk that encompasses a fine collection of specimen trees and shrubs - it doubles up as excellent exercise. There are so many places to sit down and have a lovely family picnic and admire the fabulous scenery, while having some quality family time together in a safe and beautiful setting.

Of course I'm not saying don't put your feet up and relax, but with all of this going on you'll definitely want to put it on hold.

Camping for the Weekend

The campsite on the West Dean Estate is divided into different zones: Jalapeno (most popular general camping area, close to the event arena helping to enhance the festival atmosphere of the weekend); Pimento (quiet camping area away from the main arena ideal for a good night's sleep); Bell (family friendly and close to the toilets and showers ideal for the earlier-to-bed but up bright and early!) and Chipotle (caravan and live-in vehicle area with hook-up will be located outside the camping field).
