Philip Sanderson

Associate Tutor - Visual Arts

Philip Sanderson studied both at Middlesex University and the Royal College of Art before joining the Professional Tapestry Studio at West Dean College in 1993. As both Master Weaver and Creative Director of the Studio, Philip has designed tapestries for numerous clients, notably for the New Parliamentary Buildings in Westminster. In 2014 his tapestry 'Nowhere' was shortlisted for the John Ruskin Prize. Another tapestry 'Nr. The Cheesewring' was exhibited and sold at Collect, the premiere fair in Europe for contemporary craft. Philip was awarded research funding from the Theo Moorman Trust in the same year. He joined the teaching staff of the full-time Visual Arts programmes in 2011.

Philip is Chair of The Tapestry and Textile Art Research Group.
