Colin Cross

Colin Cross has over thirty years’ experience as a violin maker. He trained at Newark under Wilfred Saunders and Patrick Jowett. In recent years, he has been head of workshop at Stringer’s in London and run his own violin-making business in Kent. He has made and sold over 150 instruments.

Approach to teaching
My teaching approach is hands-on. I have mentored many students through the RAB Trust and work-placed-learning schemes. I believe the best way to learn is with tools in your hands.

Inspiration
I am inspired by the Cremonese & Brescian makers: particularly their evolution of design and sound. I use research to explore and expand my own making constantly.
