Materials Workshops
This week there were two workshops available to Visual Arts students: an introduction to painting materials led by Rebecca Partridge and a joint workshop with the Metals Conservation students in the Forge, with an introduction to methods and materials with Alex Coode and Jon Privett. Rebecca, a painter based in Berlin, concentrated her workshop on paper and canvas stretching, preparation and application of primer and various tips of the trade. She also gave a presentation on her practice and conducted one-to-one tutorials with the full-time students. Alex Coode is an artist blacksmith who specialises in traditional and contemporary hand-forged ironwork, with a natural fluidity that is his own special signature. Jon Privett is Programme Tutor in Metals Conservation at West Dean College. Their workshop covered basic blacksmithing and welding techniques and introduced students to the possibilities available to them in the West Dean Forge.
