The School of Creative Arts is hosting a number of talks this spring.

With their transparent, softened geometric forms, Yelena Popova's paintings recall the graphics and aesthetics of both Russian Constructivism and Minimalism, and open up conversations about the materiality of painting today. Her work uses many materials and draws on different types of production, from ceramics to a computer-generated code work that generates an infinite sequence of images based on Euro banknotes. Popova's work draws on the different histories of abstraction, from vanishing forms to the abstractions of capital. Wednesday 15 February, 5:30-7pm, The King's Room, West Dean College.

After studying at the Moscow Art Theatre School, Popova completed her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2011. Based in Nottingham, her work has been exhibited in Stockholm, San Francisco, Basel, Vienna and New York, with solo shows at Figge von Rosen Gallery (now Philipp von Rosen) in Cologne, and Zabludowicz Collection and Paradise Row in London. British artist Becky Beasley explores relationships between photography and objects, the body and interiority in a way that is highly subjective and yet developed through deep immersion in the thoughts and methods of other artists and writers. Literature is particularly generative for the artist, providing her own work with a place to start from and to journey into.

Beasley graduated with an MFA from the Royal College of Art in 2002. Recent solo exhibitions include The Outside at Tate Britain (2012) and Spring Rain at Spike Island Bristol and Leeds Art Gallery (2013). Group exhibitions include The Narrators: Works from the Arts Council Collection, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (2013); Think Twice, Whitechapel Gallery (2013); The Imaginary Museum, Kunstverein Munich (2012). Lothar Götz's practice ranges from site-specific wall paintings and room-sized installations to paintings and drawings. Common to each is Götz's engagement with architectural space and his characteristic use of abstract geometric forms, colour fields, and an intense use of line. Götz's large-scale wall drawings are dialogues with given environments, which have included foyers, reading rooms, offices and staircases. The patterns that Götz develops are intuitive, balanced, and sharply defined, presenting an exuberant and joyful show of colour.

Götz completed an MA at the Royal College of Art after studying in Germany at Aachen, Düsseldorf and Wuppertal. He is represented by Domobaal in London and Petra Rinck Gallery in Düsseldorf. His solo exhibitions include Domobaal, London, 2016; Petra Rinck Gallery, Düsseldorf, 2009; and Rahncontemporary, Zürich, 2008.
