Press Release: Create your own unique jewellery on a short course at West Dean College

West Dean College offers short courses in jewellery making and enamelling to suit all levels from beginners to advanced. Learn a new skill or immerse yourself in a favourite activity on one of the many courses on offer. One Day Taster Courses are an ideal way to explore a new skill. For a more in-depth experience choose from a wide range of courses that run for a weekend or a few days. Students on a short course can escape the everyday and enjoy a creative break this summer, and be inspired by the stunning countryside surrounding the college within the heart of the South Downs.

Explore the possibilities of glass bead design. Use a torch flame to create coloured beads, and learn how to apply decorative effects. Making glass beads - an introduction with beadmaker Barbara Mason (6 - 8 May £285 Beginners).

Make a pair of beautiful contemporary Keum Bo (fusing gold foil onto silver) drop earrings, including shaping and texturing. Jewellery - silver and gold earrings with studio jeweller Sarah Macrae (25 June One Day £127 Beginners).

Learn how to transform shapes and forms into a jewellery design using repeated components. The focus will be on composition, rhythm and movement in design. Jewellery - create rhythm and movement with simple elements with jeweller Kayo Saito (16 - 19 June Long Weekend £325 Intermediate/Advanced).

Learn new techniques and gain making skills as fabricating, decorating and joining are demonstrated. You will be encouraged to incorporate other materials in your jewellery, including exotic hardwoods, shells and found objects. Create your own jewellery - an individual approach with Sarah Macrae (23 - 29 July Summer School £682 Suitable for all).

Discover the alchemy of enamelling by first practising on copper, then progress to simple silver jewellery. Learn how to translate colour and texture ideas, and the techniques using fine wires and metal leaf. Enamelling for beginners with artist, jeweller and enameller Sheila R McDonald (19 - 21 August Weekend £248).

Art jeweller, Joanne Haywood, will show you how to build your confidence in combining multiple materials with the focus on working with metal and textile forms together with demonstrations on a range of contemporary techniques.
