Toby Winteringham

Toby Winteringham MDes RCA (RCA trained, furniture maker).

Toby creates individual furniture pieces and collections based on his observations of everyday life: be they natural, industrial or cultural. Inspired by simplicity, structure, pattern and function his pieces display a pared down beauty that both challenge and please in equal measure.

He sometimes uses a combination of industrial processes and hand skills, these both inform, and reflect in, the finished works.

Toby's work has been seen at exhibitions such as Art in Action and with the Suffolk Crafts Society. Also at various galleries around the country including Artifex, in Sutton Coldfield, Collier & Dobson in Fordingbridge and Roger Billcliffe in Glasgow. His work has appeared in several books over the years.

Toby has taught in America, at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, in Maine, and regularly at West Dean College . He is also about to start running courses at his own workshops in Norfolk.

Toby's teaching style is relaxed and very hands on with guidance by demonstration. Some brief course notes on processes and techniques used are provided.
