About this course

Turn your hand to modern brush calligraphy and learn how to add a touch of festive sparkle with stunning metallics to your baubles. All the materials required are supplied, including brush pens, brushes, metallic paints/pens and baubles, cards and gifts.

Course Description

This fun workshop will teach you how to add some Christmas sparkle to your calligraphy with stunning metallics. We will show you how to create beautiful brush lettering, guiding you through letter formation, composition and colour blending with metallics. You will learn calligraphy skills that embody the season of joy and leave with some festive items and the knowledge to create more at home.

Depending on your level of ability, you will be able to choose to work using templates, or work freehand to create your own stunning modern composition.

In the afternoon, you will be taught the tips and tricks for working on raised and rounded surfaces, so that you can make your very own stunning personalised bauble.

You will be able to take away your worksheets, alphabet guides and templates, which will enable you to continue to practise your lettering at home, and, of course, your Christmas bauble!

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 - 5pm

Lunch is included.

Included

  • All the materials required for this course are supplied, including worksheets, card templates, pencil, erasers, brush pens, water brushes, brushes, metallic paints/pens and a Christmas bauble.

What students need to bring

  • You do not need to bring anything, but if you would like to think of a particular phrase to put on your artwork or card, or a word for your bauble, that would be great.

  • A variety of coloured sets of felt and fibre brush pens, water brushes, Finetec metallic paints, brush calligraphy kits and Kirsten Burke’s book on the ‘Secrets of Brush Calligraphy’ will be available from the tutor (you can pay the tutor by cash, cheque, card).

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio. This includes stout covered footwear, i.e. no open-toes or sandals.

Maisie is a calligrapher at the Modern Calligraphy Co and has been mentored by Kirsten Burke and has an energy and passion for sharing her love of calligraphy with students.
