The tutor will guide you through the basic principles of soil health and how you can identify problems that may arise. The day will include looking at plant supports and methods of protection from pests and diseases using organic principles, while welcoming wildlife into the garden.
The afternoon focus will be on planning for the growing year. You will learn about creating a sowing schedule and a crop rotation plan to ensure a healthy garden and harvests throughout the season, which can be used year after year.
The day will include a walk around the kitchen gardens at West Dean College, weather permitting.
