William Jefferies

William Jefferies was trained at Edinburgh College of Art before going on to work at the Dovecot tapestry studio. He went on to an MA course at the Royal College of Art. Teaching at Morley College until retirement, he now runs regular workshops at his studio in Kew. His tapestries are held by the V&A and the Crafts Council.

Describe your approach to teaching.
I try to engage the student in a variety of approaches to weaving a tapestry.  Bringing in samplers of work is important for discussion and inspiration.

What inspires your own work?
I am inspired by the ongoing imagery that occurs in my ideas book. This is a combination of collage and drawing work. I love working with yarns in tapestry.
