Sarka Darton

Šárka is a Czech born, artist and designer who's multimedia practice explores the relationship in between people, places and architecture in relation to the ever-changing time and space that we occupy.

Constantly seeking new ways of making and showing her work, she is a strong advocate of fundamental prominence of "looking and seeing", which could be learned and much enhanced through the art of observational drawing.

Šárka has been classically trained at international art schools across Europe including Dresden School of Art, Germany, and West Dean College. Her first solo show was in Prague, 2005, she has exhibited in galleries across the world such as Pall Mall and RCA(London), Louver (Paris), and Uffizi (Florence). Since winning the overall first prize at Italian Triennale in Verona (June 2016) her work is due to travel first to Art Rooms 2017, Melia White House, London, UK and then to International Biennale of the Mediterranean in Palermo, Italy where it will be presented as a solo exhibit occupying a sole Pavilion representing UK and the Czech Republic in the installation category. Images of Šárka's work have also been featured in a number of publications including the cover of "The Best Modern and Contemporary Artists" by Salvatore Russo and Francesco Saverio Russo, EA publishing House, launched in Vienna, Sternberg Palace, office of the Italian Consulate and Italian Culture Institute on November 19th 2016.

Approach to Teaching:

Šárka has taught and lectured in the UK and internationally. Her approach to teaching is both, playful and scientific, taking her inspiration and knowledge from many sources including Dr. Roger W. Sperry (neuropsychologist, neurologist and Nobel laureate) and an artist and educator B. Edwards author of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.

Šárka's courses are adaptable, accommodating and tailored to individual student needs.

She very much enjoys working with the keen, curious and most motivated students whom the unique West Dean College environment attracts.
