Sarah_Marshall Milliner and short courses tutor at West Dean College

Sarah Marshall

Sarah is a London based milliner and manager of John Boyd Hats where she has worked for 11 years. Previously Sarah studied 3D Design at Falmouth University specialising in sculptural textiles. She completed an apprenticeship with milliner Jane Corbett and has worked on projects with artist Anthony Gormley and jewellery company Pandora.

Describe your approach to teaching:

I teach traditional couture millinery techniques that can be then used to create really experimental and beautiful work. I encourage students to design through making and be led by the materials.

What inspires your own work?

I find inspiration in many things. I love organic natural forms and textures, particularly trees and plants, but also enjoy using unusual or vintage materials.
