Richard Walker

Richard Walker studied gilding at the University of Portsmouth. Gilding for twenty years and teaching for fifteen, he has developed a global reputation to top artists, framers, furniture designers, interior designers and museums, where he is renowned for creating new and interesting ways of gilding surfaces in traditional and modern methods.

Describe your approach to teaching.

I teach traditional and contemporary styles of gilding and take a very personal and organic approach to providing instruction. Garnering an understanding of the students background and future aspirations ensure correct and fluid progress.

What inspires your own work?

Gilding is a craft with a pedigree of 4500 years. Creating modern pieces with ancient recipes really energises me. And I love breaking the rules in gilding!
