Max Bainbridge

Max is an artist and craftsman who graduated in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts and currently runs his collaborative arts practice Forest + Found, with whom he exhibits internationally. Working with traditional and experimental techniques he produces sculptural works in wood. His book The Urban Woodsman was published in October 2016.

Describe your approach to teaching:

My teaching focuses on creating a comfortable and relaxed environment to give beginners the chance to experiment and play with sculptural forms in wood. I approach the materials with an appreciation and respect for the slow process of crafting an object.

What inspires your work?

My work draws its influence from the material itself, allowing the wood to dictate form and shape. My process is very much about the removal of material to slowly reveal the inner truth and beauty of the piece I'm working on.
