Mary Noble

Mary's graphic design training led her on to study calligraphy to advanced level, becoming Fellow of the two national Calligraphy Societies, SSI and CLAS, and her work is displayed in many of their exhibition catalogues. She's been teaching for 30 years and has published several books focusing on beginners.

Describe your approach to teaching

"I like to teach with lots of encouragement, demonstrations, and step-by-step guidance. Hands-on practice and one-to-one help are essential, plus examples of calligraphy to inspire."

What inspires your own work?

"I love letters, large and small, in pen or brush, on paper or on walls. I strive to make the lettering bring the words alive without need for images."
