Mary Butcher

Mary Butcher has had a diverse career as a basketmaker, exhibition curator, writer and teacher, with opportunities to expand her working practices. She has held prestigious crafts residencies, at the V& A, at Cambridge University Botanic Garden and elsewhere, often in tandem with a number of major research grants to Poland, Hungary, Japan and in Britain, discovering more about basket forms, their uses and history.

Her work has been exhibited more recently at a solo show at Flow Gallery, London, at Ruthin Craft Centre, at Turner Contemporary, Margate, as well as with the Oxford Basketmakers and at Fen Ditton Gallery, Cambridge. She received an MBE for services to basket making in 2012.
