Mariella Baldwin studied botanical illustration at the English
Gardening School, London and received an MA in Visual Arts from
Sussex University. Her paintings are held in collections both in
the UK and USA. She is a painting member of Chelsea Physic Garden
Florilegium Society. Her book 'Botanical Painting' was published in
2011.
Describe your approach to teaching:
I have a passion for plants and an equal passion to share with
students my painting knowledge. I encourage students to work to
their strengths whether beginner or experienced artist.
What inspires your own work?
Gardens and the environment naturally provide a wealth of
material to inspire. Botanical motifs abound and are held deep
within our psyche. I find inspiration almost everywhere but I am
particularly drawn to vegetables, together with historical
documents and references which link us to the continuum of human
endeavour
