Awarded an MBE in 2009, Katharine Coleman trained in glass
engraving with Peter Dreiser at Morley College. She exhibits
worldwide with work in many public collections including the
V&A and Corning USA, she also teaches at The Studio, Corning
(USA) and Bild-Werk Frauenau (Germany).
Describe your approach to teaching:
Katharine regularly teaches point & drill engraving and
sandblast at West Dean, demonstrating techniques before focusing on
each student on a one-to-one basis, with illustrated evening
talks.
What inspires your own work?
My inspiration ranges from natural history to the modern urban
landscape. The optical properties of glass are fascinating,
providing a rich world for the artist, as yet barely explored.
