John Grayson

John Grayson has 30 years of experience in making and teaching craft. He developed a passion for decorated metal during training at Wolverhampton University. His automata and narrative objects have been exhibited internationally, led to numerous commissions and feature in UK collections including the Crafts Council.  

Describe your approach to teaching. 

My teaching approach focuses on facilitating the realisation of students' creative ideas through discussion, showing examples of craftwork; demonstrating techniques; and, assisting students in designing and making in the workshop.

What inspires your own work? 

My work combines interests in narrative - political satire to folk tales, and kinetics, with rejuvenating making processes of the eighteenth-century midland enamel trade, the focus of my PhD.
