Subject Tutor, Collections Care and Conservation Management

Janet Sinclair is subject tutor on the CCCM MA course in the School of Conservation. She knows the College well, having first worked at West Dean as House Manager over ten years ago. Subsequently she moved to Stansted Park, Michelham Priory and most recently Petworth, as House and Collections Manager for the National Trust. She has continued to contribute to courses at West Dean as a PTVL and by hosting site visits and tours for students.

Janet is an art historian, curator and lecturer, educated at the Courtauld Institute, Bretton Hall and the Barber Institute, Birmingham, where her MPhil was on the history of British collecting and she taught for many years.

She has held senior management posts at significant heritage sites in the UK including Worcester Cathedral and Madresfield Court, managing archives, interpretation, and collections care. She is a member of the Attingham Society, ICOM and locally a panel member of the Sustainable Communities Fund in the South Downs National Park, and a freelance lecturer in art history and historic house studies.
