Helen Robinson

I am an independent stained glass artist working almost entirely to commission in architecture. I am largely self-taught having started out on a short course very similar to those run at West Dean followed by Master Classes and a Post-Graduate course at Central St Martins. I have windows in a number of churches, schools and many private houses. I am Associate of the British Society of Master Glass Painters and a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers.

Describe your approach to teaching.

Primarily stained glass is a wonderful art form although it is also a complex medium where students need a firm grasp of craft processes. This enables them to exploit the beauty of glass and to use lead as a powerful graphic tool.

What inspires your own work?

My work is mostly inspired by nature and of course, being site-specific, by the demands of the building into which the window will go.
