Guy Venables

Guy had his first cartoon published in Punch aged 15 and since then has been regularly working as a cartoonist for publications including Private Eye, The Spectator, Punch, The Daily Mail, The Independent, The Times, Metro, The New Yorker, Classic Boat and Classic Sailor. He also is a writer for comedy on the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Radio 4.

My approach to teaching is a mixture of pure pen and ink drawing technique and teaching the methods of taking a news story or situation and drawing the humour from it using diagrams lists and visual aids with help from examples from the history of carrtooning.

My own work is inspired by anything from fine art to the product design on cereal packets and everything in between. My contemporary cartoonists working alongside me today are a constant source of inspiration as are the works of Punch cartoonists from the 1920s.
