Flavio Marzo

Flavio Marzo is an ICON Accredited Book Conservator with an extensive experience both as bench conservator and conservation manager. Flavio earned a conservation degree from the European Conservation School in Spoleto in 1999. He was the last intern of the late Christopher Clarkson and has worked at the British Library between 2005 and 2018. During these 13 years he had the opportunity to work on Western and Eastern Manuscripts, printed material and flat items, both on paper and parchment. During his BL years he was involved in large scale digitisation projects (Greek and Royal Manuscript digitisation projects, conservation manager for the British Library, Qatar Foundation Partnership) and was appointed conservator for high profile projects like the Codex Sinaiticus Digitisation Project and the acquisition of the St. Cuthbert Gospel by the BL.

Outside of his official work, Flavio has run courses and workshops in book conservation and historical books structures in UK, Italy and Greece and has worked for the Italian government as quality officer in book conservation. Flavio is presently manager of the Cambridge Colleges Conservation Consortium, a team of four conservator that provides conservation support for the Libraries and Archives of 15 Cambridge Colleges and he is also supervising the conservation work back in the monastic conservation studio in his village of origin Novalesa (Italy).
