Clare Hedges, Tutor at West Dean College

Clare Hedges

Clare Hedges is a professional maker of bespoke passementerie. Her clients include heritage organisations, interior decorators and private clients all over the world.

Her work can be seen in many National Trust properties. She was featured in Country Life magazine as a “Living National Treasure”.

Describe your approach to teaching:
I teach by first demonstrating and then assisting students to copy what I have done. My courses are fairly informal and, whilst covering all the professional techniques, fun to do.

What inspires your own work?
I am inspired by many things, it might be a very old sample, or something I’ve seen in nature.
