Catherine Woolfitt is an archaeologist, architectural conservator and acts as Subject Leader for the Building Conservation Masterclasses. An accredited member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) and of the Institute of Conservation (ICON), she has worked in the conservation of the built heritage since 1993. With wide-ranging work experience in Italy, Israel and the UK (England, Scotland, and Wales), her experience bridges the museum, object, and building conservation sectors. She provides technical advice in the conservation of historic masonry buildings, ancient monuments and sculpture and specialises in porous building materials, in particular building limes, building stones and architectural ceramics.
Research interests include the investigation and study of lime mortars through history, the cleaning and conservation of terracotta and brick, and the in situ cleaning and conservation of architectural sculpture.
