Caroline Allington, Making a fan

Caroline Allington

Caroline Allington was the first curator of The Fan Museum and has taught fan-making classes for almost 30 years, mainly at The Fan Museum but also at the V & A, the Wallace Collection, and the Fitzwilliam Museum, as well as to various craft groups such as lace makers and embroiderers.

Having collected fans in a small, limited, budget way since she was 16, a major interest in craftsmanship has been a constant focus. Her first museum exhibition was of fans.

Qualified as both a conservator and a museum curator she has worked in museums (British Museum, National Museum of Denmark), historic houses and palaces in this country and abroad, mainly looking after historic interiors and contents.
