Candida Lacey

Candida Lacey, BA (Hons), MA, DPhil, is Publisher and Managing Director of Myriad Editions. After completing her doctorate in English and American Literature at the University of Sussex, she worked as a commissioning editor at Routledge, Pandora Press, HarperCollins and Jonathan Cape. She joined Myriad to work on the 'State of the World' series of infographic atlases before, in 2004, launching a new publishing programme designed to showcase emerging authors. She is co-founder and director of the First Fictions Festival and organises Myriad's annual First Drafts competition.

My approach to teaching, editing and publishing is inquisitive, collaborative and discursive. I work closely with writers, offering editorial support to help them achieve their creative potential, navigate the publishing industry and build audiences for their work.

I am inspired by a belief that independent publishers are crucially important as seedbeds for developing new talent.
