Alison Crum is well-known throughout the Western World as both
as a player and teacher of the viol. She has made around 100
recordings, most often with the Rose Consort of Viols, and directs
numerous summer schools and workshops worldwide. She has been
called the 'doyenne of British viol teachers'.
My approach to teaching is to combine an understanding and
appreciation of the music we are studying with an explanation of
the techniques required to improve the musical result.
My inspiration for playing and teaching the viol comes from a
long term love of the sound of the instrument, and for the music it
would have played in the 16th and 17th centuries.
