Beginners
£260Familarise yourself with the basic principles of field recording equipment and techniques, starting with the conventional and also looking at more experimental approaches that are now key elements of the form.
You will have the chance to use various different types of microphone and listening devices, exploring into the ultrasonic, electromagnetic and infrasound ranges, as well as discussing some approaches to working in different ways with located sound (installation, live performance, sound design for film etc).
During the course it is intended that all participants will gather a series of recordings and work on them, with guidance. A key aim is to explore the benefits of durational listening and recording. Ideally, you will have an interest in listening beyond a passive sense.
Arrival Day - this is the first date listed above
Courses start early evening. Residential students to arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm.
6.45pm: Welcome, followed by dinner (included).
8 - 9pm: First teaching session, attendance is essential.
Daily timetable
Classes 9.15 - 5pm, lunch is included.
From 6.30pm: Dinner (included for residential students).
Evening working - students may have access to workshops, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.
Last day
Classes 9.15am - 3pm, lunch is included.
Residential students are to vacate their rooms by 10am please.
