Summary

On our annual nine day course you will work in small groups (SMI08645-SMI08648), with an experienced maker as your tutor, selecting an instrument from the range offered according to your interests and previous woodworking experience. Instrument options include some which are suitable for complete beginners. Instruction is given in the principles of making, assembling and finishing the instrument, allowing you to start a new project or complete one already in progress. The tutor will contact you prior to the course to discuss your choice and the materials required. Please note many instruments take more than nine days to complete.

Peter Barton


Peter Barton studied musical instrument making under the direction of Roger Rose on the full time course at West dean.

Since 1986 he has been working as a professional luthier making classical and acoustic guitars.
He has also taught guitar making as a part time lecturer at Leeds College of Music and West Dean College.
